Default -Some of My Guild Questions--Ploz Help me LOL-

Anyway guys when i first started the game i had no friends or anything but I wanted a cape and i eventually wanted to be the leader of a guild since i like helping people in game and the experience overall is what is fun for me. So i bought a cape with my nooby ascalon money.

I started my 3 other presearing accounts a couple of weeks later and each time i went through presearing i teamed with a first time player and eventually they joined my guild.

I also after tedious farming even though we had only 4 members in our guild payed for our guildhall.(the dead one)

Now there are like 3 other people in our guild and i have turned one of the most helpfull guild members into an officer.

Also my guild is called The Servants Of Morgoth and basically anyone can join but especially lotr or silmarillion fans welcome

My Questions:
1. How do good guilds and how can i get members? (i have made a guild announcement telling everyone to ask their friends if they wanna join guild) I dont wanna spam local chat for recruiting into the guild since i think thats just degrading your guild. (especially since i have pvp hopes for our guild in the future)
2. What Criteria should i elect officers on? What safeguards if any should i keep to make sure they dont go renegade and delete the guild members.
3. How do i deal with whiners or troublemakers (before kicking them that is)
4. About how many members does a good tightly knit guild have? (is there a max number of people you can have in your guild?)

I know that was a long read guys but i would appreciate if any of you could give me hints/suggestions on how to get a good guild running or/and answer my questions.

Again thank you and maybe if we get good well c ya sometime

I can answer 2 and 3, but our guild is still having problems finding members we can keep, so I can't answer the others

2: Always always always pick a responsible person to be officer. Make sure he or she knows the rules by which to invite and kick people, and make absolutely sure that they won't abuse the rank you give them. Most often, the guild members who contribute the most as far as showing selflessness and being able to lead others is a good candidate to elect as officer.

3: The rule I set is, if the person causes a ruckus, you give them a warning. If it happens again, warn them again, and tell them they will be kicked if they cause more trouble (always make sure they're fully aware of the situation--don't kick them before warning them). If the person seems to have an issue with other members, talk to both and try to mediate the situation. If a resolution can be achieved in a timely manner, then you can potentially keep the strength of the guild without losing anyone.

This is all in my opinion

1. Have your guild do missions and add pickups. See how they interact with you. If one or two mesh well, talk to them about joining. Just don't do it publically, do it in private.

2. Officers should be those who are the MVP's of the guild. People who will be there to lend a hand and help out most often. They should also be people who others look up to in the guild besides the leader. A role model.

3. Be strong and let them know in no uncertain terms their behavior will not be tolerated.

4. The more people you add, the more there is a chance it will effect your guild being tight-knit. Keep that in mind, and look for people who will add to your guild dynamic, not take away from it. While you want new members, you still have to protect what your guild has at the same time.

keep recruiting new players.
if a new player starts in your guild and "grows up" in it, they will be more in-tune with newcomers; more willing to assist, etc.
the downside to this is that if your guild has a problem with keeping people for more than a few months the average experience-level will be relatively low, as is the case with my guild...but i wouldnt trade my guys for all the rank 12 pvpers in the world.

The key to good guilds:
Know your core competence.

Know what makes your guild stand out above the crowd, then guard it with your life.
Taking a high ranked pvp guild: knowledge, experience, and pvp succes. Those are points players want to associate with.
Taking a regional guild: same language, background
Taking SoF: older gamers (20's-30's), friendly and joking, knowledgeable

You can even be picky just to keep that core competence.

elect them on being:
- long term in the guild, so having some experience with them
- friendly
- general activity in game
- quality knowledge/feedback
safeguards: there is no way in GW unfortunately. But if you pick them carefully, then the need for safeguards will be smaller.

3. How do i deal with whiners or troublemakers (before kicking them that is)
If possible, do a recruitingprocess, a time where you get used to the player that wants to join your guild before letting him in. this should shift the good from the ugly.
If a current member is making trouble, first try to discuss it. If the situation is going sour, influencing the guild, and can't be discussed properly, then kick him.

techniquely 100 I believe. as for wishable: pve large numbers probably, pvp high ranked small: teams that are well used to each other.

er, not exactly.
Vent (and to a lesser extent inferior TS) are minimal requirements. A forum and website are also means that when they are around, it does not specificly boost the morale of your members. Yet when they aren't there, it will influence the attractiveness of your guild negatively usually.

Vent and TS are essential in team battles. Not to mention it brings team members closer together - communicating with your teammates isn't as impersonal as text on a screen. Forums are essential for communication when people are on different schedules - it's not like there's a message board feature in Guild Wars.

You could send email after email to your members, I guess... and make sure everyone's CC'd and be ready to cut and paste all of the responses together so everyone knows what people are saying...

It quite funny (in a nice way) to see a post like this as it brings back a lot of memories...on the 20th of January our guild will be 8 months old...

Like you I started the guild when scrounging for money in Old Ascalon and was working towards a cape till i was in Ventari's Refuge...To me that was a tremendous achievement then ...lol

It is true that the baby-steps of any guild are indeed the hardest ones.

Throughout missions If I saw a player that was not necessarily skillful (although many were) but had good team-attitude and was polite I invited them to join me. Some of these players are exceptional people and their skill is truly superb. By the time I completed the campaign there were about 5 of us...

I farmed hard and long to work towards buying the Guild Hall for us. The way I saw it was, that it was something that i wanted to offer them as a leader, something for them to take pride in and defend, and as a little meeting place. ...I did not ask for money of anyone as i wanted to see them prosper and develop financialy, and at the same time i jumped back to do most missions with them...

As more new characters were created on the account i started picking up more people and decided to promote 2 players to officer status after 2 months of them being in the Guild...At the moment we have four officers and 25 members...bear this in mind however. Whoever thinks that the guild might be small by their standards, out of these officers I would trust all four to be assigned as guild leaders if I ever need to be absent. Every single one of them...

The members are not only my responsibility (as well as the officers) but they make me proud to have onboard...A team that would abandon everything they are doing to run to someones aid when needed, makes me truly happy to see...We don't sell items if we know someone else might have use for it...We know all the Chars that everybody has and how they play with them, where they are progress-wise and what they might be requiring.

Although there have been bad apples, two possibilities might take place. First they don't last long. They usually just leave the guild because they feel no allegiance to the other guild members. Second would be, that either me or an officer would issue a warning and " thouroughly" discuss the problem. A second warning will be issued if the problem lingers. On the third strike those members will be banned. I do trust my officers and their ability to make decisions, because i know they are responsible, mature guys, that now how to have fun playing the game and allowing other players to do the same.

I must have said this a hundred times, and i ll say it again. I would rather have a small guild that I can depend on and that support each other, rather than being part of an impresonal 200 member guild that we do not know each others names and chars...

I do suggest avoiding spamming in towns that members are needed. my reasoning is that in order to invite someone you need to have a basis for that, be it their skill, or character and personality. Watch them how they interact in game and decide. If at the first sign of hardship they start calling everyone a "noob" (god i hate that word ), then you do not want them...if you see a caster that decides to sacrifice himself to cover the team's retreat although he will die and suffer DP.....That's the person you need to invite...

My apologies for the long reply...

Cov
